Biography
Pierre (Peter) Cruzatte was born to a French father and an Omaha Indian mother.
It is not known when he was born, but it is believed that he was the oldest member of the expedition. He was probably a member of the Cruzatte family that were early settlers of St. Louis.
Cruzatte was recruited for his navigational skills on the river and was assigned along with François Labiche to man the bow in the keelboat.
